COMMUNITY ORGANIZER
The Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment is seeking a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER to work out of it Delano, Kern County office. The Delano office focuses on environmental justice issues in Kern, Kings, Tulare and Fresno Counties in the Southern San Joaquin Valley.
Using capacity building, community organizing, administrative advocacy and litigation, CRPE works with and on behalf of community groups to prevent environmental degradation and improve public health. Currently, the office has two attorneys and one community organizer with whom the new community organizer will work closely.
POSTION: Community Organizer, Environmental Justice Organization in Delano.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations in Kern, Kings, Tulare and Fresno Counties: identify, organize, and train community residents in environmental justice activities; identify and support community leaders for participation in environmental justice associations; interpret for non-English speaking clients in interviews and during hearings; gather information through field investigations; represent clients in administrative hearings; file and serve legal documents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years experience as a community organizer or equivalent
- Read, write and speak English preferred
- Read, write and speak Spanish required
- Possess good oral and written advocacy skills
- California driver’s license and car
SALARY: $30,000 – 40,000, depending upon experience
