Justice Bus Brings Lawyers from the City to Rural Communities PDF Print E-mail

IMG_0839-001On July 20th, CRPE and OneJustice™ teamed up to host a Justice Bus® tour, bringing fourteen attorneys from Hewlett-Packard and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP to the Central Valley to provide legal advice to community leaders. CRPE's Equal Justice Works Fellow Camille Pannu (center)  coordinated the event with Americorps Equal Justice Works Fellow Candace Chen. The two worked together over nine months to pair volunteer attorneys with six San Joaquin Valley groups working on socially just and environmentally sustainable community/economic development programs.

This particular Justice Bus® trip was the first of its kind in the nation, kicking off a long-term relationship between participating attorneys and low-income south Valley communities. Attorneys who participated in the program will help communities incorporate non-profits, draft lease agreements, and gain access to resources for essential infrastructure. The trip will be highlighted as an example of innovative solutions for limited-resource communities at Equal Justice Works’s Annual Gala on October 25, 2012.
